Women's Scarves, Chosen in Cardiff

A scarf is the most adaptable accessory you can own. Knotted at the neck it finishes a shirt; wrapped twice it is the warmest thing you will wear all winter; tied to a bag handle or through your hair it becomes a flash of print. We choose scarves that work hard across the year, from fine silk for spring to alpaca and wool for the depths of a Welsh winter.

Everything here is picked by us to work with the clothing in our shop, and like the rest of our edit, we buy in small batches and never restock.

Silk Scarves

Silk scarves are the classic all-rounder. LeScarf makes silk and cashmere paisley scarves in a 65cm square, a size that ties neatly at the neck, around a ponytail or onto a bag. Essentiel Antwerp adds the Kontact silk scarf for something bolder, and Bellerose offers the Sose square scarf.

Cashmere and Wool Scarves

When it gets properly cold, reach for a cashmere or wool scarf. Our cashmere paisley scarves from LeScarf are soft enough to wear against bare skin, while Becksöndergaard offers the Leola and Stitch wool scarves. The Banu, Otus and Tuli scarves from Rino & Pelle are generous and cosy, and the Galine Rachelle icon scarf from MSCH Copenhagen is a chunky everyday knit.

Triangle Scarves

Triangle scarves sit neatly at the front of the neck without the bulk of a long scarf, which makes them perfect under a coat collar. Look for the alpaca-wool triangle scarf and Croflora triangle scarf from Becksöndergaard, the Dusol triangle scarf from Bellerose and the faux fur triangle scarf from Helen Moore.

Collars and Neck Warmers

For a neater option, try a collar or neck warmer. The Diana collar from Helen Moore is faux fur and adds instant glamour to a plain coat, the Dusyk zip collar from Bellerose zips snugly into place, and the fur neck warmer from Haute L'amitié is easy to throw on with anything.

Printed Scarves

Prints are where scarves really have fun. LeScarf offers leopard, Dalmatian and polka dot designs, Rino & Pelle has a zebra print scarf, TWNS brings bright colour with the Vail scarf, and American Vintage adds the logo Zinaco scarf. DAY Birger et Mikkelsen keeps things classic with the Tory gabardine scarf.

How to Wear a Scarf

How to tie a scarf is one of the most searched scarf questions, and the answer depends on the size. A small silk square looks best folded into a narrow band and knotted at the side of the neck, or tied around a ponytail. A long wool scarf can be looped once around the neck with both ends hanging down, or folded in half and pulled through the loop for extra warmth. A triangle scarf is worn with the point at the front and the ends wrapped round and tied, or tucked under your coat collar.

Use your scarf to pull colours together. A paisley scarf can pick up the colours in a print dress, while a bold plain knit lifts a neutral outfit of jeans and a jumper. We are always happy to show you a few ways to tie yours if you visit us on Pontcanna Street.

Caring for Your Scarf

Always check the care label first, as many silk, cashmere and alpaca scarves are best hand washed in cool water or dry cleaned. Lay knitted scarves flat to dry so they keep their shape, and fold rather than hang them in storage. Pair yours with the rest of our accessories, or shop the full set in our hats, scarves and gloves edit.
