Gold Necklaces for Women at Kiti

A necklace frames the face and changes the feel of an outfit faster than almost anything else, which is why it is often the first piece of jewellery people invest in. We buy gold necklaces for women from a small group of independent labels, in small batches that are never restocked, so the edit is always moving. The constant is pieces that suit a T-shirt as easily as a silk shirt and that layer without a fight.

If you are building a set, our earrings and bracelets edits carry many of the same labels, so it is easy to match a finish or a chain style.

T-Bar Necklaces

The T-bar is a toggle clasp worn at the front as a feature, and Tilly Sveaas are the label most associated with it. Their curb link T-bar necklaces use recycled sterling silver chain from a member of the Responsible Jewellery Council, and the two-tone version pairs a gold plated brass T-bar with a silver chain. Talis Chains offer T-bar pendants on belcher and link chains, including a tiger's eye version, and Orelia make a waterproof linear link T-bar necklace in silver.

Tennis Necklaces and Chokers

A tennis necklace is a continuous line of stones on a flexible setting, the necklace equivalent of the tennis bracelet. The Orelia LUXE Tennis Necklace is set with cubic zirconia on 18k gold plated stainless steel and is waterproof. Worn high on the neck, the Talis Chains straight ridged tennis choker does the same job with more structure, and their braided mesh choker and leather cord choker give you a gold option and a softer one.

Pendant, Locket and Initial Necklaces

Pendant necklaces are the easiest way to make a necklace personal. Orelia LUXE initial necklaces come in gold and silver, and their waterproof starburst locket necklace puts a small, sparkling twist on the classic locket shape. Talis Chains pendants include a halo pendant, a flower pendant and a lucky amulet, all set with sparkling stones. For a heart, Tilly Sveaas hang a crystal-set gold heart on a chunky curb clip chain, set on one side only so you can wear it plain or sparkling.

Chunky Gold Necklaces and Statement Pieces

Chunky gold necklaces are having a long moment, and they suit open necklines and simple knitwear especially well. Talis Chains make a chunky link necklace in gold plated brass, while the Essentiel Antwerp Karrie necklace uses oversized polished links in resin and brass, so it looks bold without the weight. Coluri offer the Lorde statement necklace for real impact, and Orelia add a molten-effect three-row necklace and beaded styles mixing semi-precious stones and pearls.

By Alona necklaces are made in the UK and include a mariner chain with interlocking oval links, a rolo chain and pieces set with green stones or tiger's eye. For a finer look, the Atelier18 Emerald Eternity necklace sets bright stones in a small circle on a short chain, and Atelier18 make their jewellery in sterling silver coated in 18kt gold.

Charm Necklaces

The Coluri charm chains come in thin and thick gold plated or silver plated stainless steel, made to carry the letter, zodiac and tarot pendants in our charms edit. Start with one charm and add more over time; it makes a thoughtful gift that grows.

How to Layer Necklaces

Layering works best when each necklace sits at a different length and has a different weight. Start with your shortest piece, such as a choker or a fine chain close to the collarbone, then add a pendant a few centimetres lower and finish with a longer or chunkier chain. Keep a gap of around 5cm between lengths so they do not tangle, and mix textures rather than repeating the same chain three times.

  • Choker or short chain: around 35cm to 40cm
  • Collarbone or pendant length: around 42cm to 45cm
  • Longer layer or statement chain: 50cm and beyond

Many of our necklaces have an extension chain, which makes it easy to fine-tune a layered look without buying another piece.

Gold Plated, Vermeil and Sterling Silver

Most of our necklaces are gold plated, meaning a layer of real gold over brass or stainless steel. Atelier18 pieces have a thicker gold coating over sterling silver, which is the construction usually called gold vermeil, and some Tilly Sveaas chains are recycled sterling silver. We do not currently focus on solid gold; plated and vermeil jewellery lets you wear bigger, bolder pieces every day. Each product page lists exactly what a necklace is made from.

Caring for Your Necklaces

Put necklaces on after perfume and moisturiser, take brass-based pieces off before swimming, bathing or exercise, and store each necklace flat or hanging in its own pouch so chains do not knot. Waterproof stainless steel styles can be worn in water, but a quick rinse and dry after the sea or a pool keeps them bright.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a T-bar necklace?

A T-bar necklace fastens with a bar that slots through a ring, and the clasp is worn at the front as a design feature. It works on its own, with a pendant hung from the ring, or as the statement piece in a layered look.

How do you layer necklaces?

Choose two or three necklaces of different lengths and weights, leaving roughly 5cm between each. Start with a short chain or choker, add a pendant at collarbone length, then finish with a longer or chunkier chain.

What length necklace should I choose?

Around 35cm to 40cm sits close to the neck like a choker, 42cm to 45cm falls to the collarbone and suits most pendants, and 50cm or longer sits lower on the chest. Many of our necklaces have an extension chain for flexibility.

Are gold plated necklaces waterproof?

Necklaces made on stainless steel and described as waterproof can be worn in water. Gold plated brass necklaces last longer if you remove them before swimming, bathing or exercise and keep them away from perfume.

What is a tennis necklace?

A tennis necklace is a continuous line of stones on a flexible setting. Ours are set with cubic zirconia on gold plated metal, and they work on their own for evening or layered with finer chains for day.

Can I add charms to a necklace?

Yes. Our charm chains are designed to carry clip-on letter, zodiac and tarot charms, so you can build a charm necklace over time and change it whenever you like.
