Who is Serena Bute?

Serena Bute London is the contemporary British womenswear label founded in 2015 by Lady Serena Bute, daughter of the 7th Marquess of Bute. The brand is independently run from London and produced in small, considered batches, with a focus on fluid fabrics, soft tailoring and a colour palette that runs from clear English neutrals to sharper Mediterranean brights. An upbringing between London and the Isle of Bute runs quietly through the collections in the way the clothes balance polish with ease.

The aesthetic is what the founder calls relaxed glamour. Pieces are designed to be worn together, layered, taken on holiday, then quietly reset for autumn. Trinny Woodall and a long list of fashion editors and stylists have championed the label, and the silk shirt in particular has become something of a signature.

The signature pieces

The silk shirt

If you only buy one Serena Bute piece, it tends to be the silk shirt. Long-line, lightly relaxed through the body, with a soft collar and easy cuff. The brand cuts it in clean neutrals like cream, oyster and black, and in the sharper neon brights that have become a calling card. It is the sort of shirt you wear with jeans on a Saturday, with satin trousers for an evening, then over a swimsuit in August. If silk shirting is your thing, the tailored shirts in our Anine Bing edit sit very naturally alongside.

The satin trouser

Fluid satin trousers are the second pillar. Wide leg, high rise, falling cleanly through the hip with just enough weight in the fabric to hold the line. They are flattering in a way that surprises people, and they punch above their weight on holidays and at parties because they read as dressed without ever being uncomfortable. When the fashion press talks about the trouser replacing your jeans this spring, Serena Bute is in the conversation.

The co-ord

The matching shirt-and-trouser co-ord is where the brand became famous on Instagram. Bought together it reads as a soft suit; split apart it gives you two of the most useful pieces in your wardrobe. Co-ords arrive in small drops, often in a single signature colour, and tend to sell through quickly.

Dresses, slips and the Ibiza edit

Beyond shirting and tailoring, Serena Bute does a quietly excellent line in silk and satin dresses. Bias slips, long fluid columns, the occasional ruched detail. The brand's Ibiza dress has its own search demand for a reason: it travels well, packs to nothing, and looks worn-in straight off the hanger. For occasion options across the boutique, browse the wider designer dresses edit; for fluid, resort-leaning silks in a similar register, our Stella Nova collection is a natural companion.

How we wear Serena Bute

With jeans and a blazer for the everyday silk shirt. With heeled mules and a small bag for the satin trouser. As a co-ord with flat sandals, hair pulled back and no jewellery, on a hot week away. Layered under one of our designer coats and jackets in shoulder season. The clothes reward restraint; they look best when the rest of the outfit is doing very little.

Sizing and fit

Serena Bute runs UK sizing in small, medium and large across most styles, with selected pieces in numbered UK sizing. The silks sit gently away from the body, so we would recommend ordering your usual UK size unless you prefer a more generous, oversized look on shirting, in which case sizing up by one is a safe move. Trousers run true to size with a high rise, and the co-ord pieces are designed to be worn together but cut to read separately. If you are unsure on a specific piece, message us before you order and we will check it for you.

Caring for silk and satin

The fabrics are what make these pieces feel as good as they do, and they reward a little care. Cool gentle wash or a careful dry-clean, dry flat away from direct sunlight, iron on a low silk setting from the reverse, and store on a soft hanger or folded with tissue. Looked after, the silks deepen and soften with wear, and a Serena Bute shirt can quite happily move through a decade of use.

Serena Bute at Kiti

We are a Cardiff-based independent boutique stocking high-end pieces from small, independent designers, and Serena Bute fits that brief exactly. Our buy is small and considered. When a colour or size sells through, that is usually the end of the run. Browse the full designer women's clothing edit at the boutique, or head straight for the Serena Bute pieces above.
